
Walter was born in Pulteney, NY on July 31, 1926 the son of the late, Walters C. and Emily (Genung) Schuyler. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the Penn Yan VFW Post 745, the Penn Yan Moose Lodge, and was a member of the Dundee Fire Dept. for over 55years. Walter drove truck for Richard Johncox in Williamson and hauled grapes with Sun Rise Industries in Dundee. He had also worked for Friendly Dodge delivering vehicles.
He loved to read and enjoyed a good Louis Lamoure Novel. He was an avid race fan and keeping with his love of racing he help his son, Jim maintain race cars. He enjoyed camping at Paradise Campgrounds in Reading Center and enjoyed spending time with his camp friends. Above all his enjoyments, ‘Papa’ loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Walter is survived by his son, James (Sharon) Schuyler of Himrod; son-in-law, Norman Thompson; several loved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Nellie Hoban of Bath and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his wife Flora Mae; his daughter, Katie H. Thompson; sisters, Madeline Bollen and Winnie Holley; and brother, Howard Schuyler.
Papa’s family will receive friends and guest in celebration of his life at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY on Tuesday, May 31 from 6 to 8pm. A Fireman’s Service with the Dundee Fire Dept. will be held at 8 pm with a short service of remembrance with Lew Ann Giles. Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Dundee, NY on Wednesday, June 1st at 1pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Walter to the Dundee Fire Dept. or the Dundee Ambulance Corp.
