Alice, the youngest child of Everett M. and Gazelle (Camp) Bowman, was born on the family farm outside of Neosho Rapids, KS on February 16, 1930. Inherent gifts of height and athletic ability allowed Alice to dominate in all manner of sport in her formative years. A voracious love of reading helped her sail through school and saw her graduate at the tender age of 16. Soon after, she went to live with her sisters Evelyn and Lou in Kansas City where she began building her life.
Years later, on an evening out dancing with friends, she met the love of her life, Ernie Pintar. They both loved to dance and play cards and they did a lot of both over the years. They were married on July 13, 1957 and made their home in Kansas City, KS where they created a wonderful life for their children, Gary and Sandy.
When her kids were young, Alice blessed her family as a stay-at-home mom who exemplified love in action, whether it was getting up before dawn to drive Gary on his paper route because it was raining, teaching Sandy how to sew, packing up half the household into a pop-up trailer for cross-country camping trips, depositing or picking up a gaggle of kids from The Pool (aka Wyandot Swim Club), or playing a cut-throat game of Spoons. One thing that never changed about Alice was that she was always willing to teach or play a game (especially cards) with her kids – a gift she also bestowed on her grandchildren.
When the KCK school district was in desperate need of school bus drivers, Alice answered the call and proudly spent 21 years driving kids to and from school and on field-trips all over the city.
As a couple, Alice and Ernie didn’t sit still much. They were always busy working together or enjoying life. They square danced, loved to travel and were part of a camping club, could build-on or remodel any room in the house (on their own and in record time), gardened and canned their produce, loved playing pool with their friends at the Bonner Springs Senior Center, and were very involved with their faith community; first at Grace Lutheran in KCK and later at Trinity Lutheran Church, Shawnee, KS.
Alice and Ernie’s last home together was on 10 acres in southern Leavenworth County, KS. Following Ernie’s death in 2014, Alice moved to Pensacola, FL and made a home there with Gary, his wife Debbie and their family. Throughout her years with them she experienced much love, the greatest of care, and cherished time with family.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ernie, her parents, all of her siblings and their spouses, Muriel (John) Conway, Estil Bowman, Iden “Red” (Mae) Bowman, Evelyn (Ray) Manzarr, Louella (Howard) Downey, a brother who died at birth and sister Miriam Gazelle Bowman who died in infancy. She was also preceded in death by Ernie’s siblings and their spouses, William (Angele) Pintar, Albert (Frances) Pintar, and Frank Inderwiesen.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Gary (Debbie) Pintar, Pensacola, FL and Sandy (Mark) Linville, Bonner Springs, KS, seven grandchildren and their spouses, Adam (Christina) Linville, Erin Linville, Ashley (Eric) Duarte, Joshua (Emily) Pintar, Christina (Stephen) Halsey, Rebekah Pintar, and Richard (Tori) Pintar, seven great-grandchildren, Natalie and Nathan Pintar, Charlie and Simon Linville, Hailey, Carli and William Halsey with another little Halsey on the way, and by Ernie’s brother and sisters, Carl (Mary Ann) Pintar, Dorothy Inderwiesen, and Lena Reid.
The family will hold a private burial at a later date.
