Ben was born the sixth child of parents Lorenzo and Carmen Quiaot in Fuerte, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. He graduated from the Northern Luzon School of Arts and Trades, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at a U.S. naval base in Cavite, Philippines in 1963. Ben retired a proud U.S. military veteran after 20 years of service. He then began working at the Main Post Office on Jordan Street, until he fully retired around 2004.
Ben will be missed by his wife of 56 years Filipinas, sons John and Ben Jr, daughter Arlene, grandchildren Benjamin Miles, Zachary, Jacob, Elijah, and Gabriella, siblings Leonida, Aurora, and Virginia, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews living throughout the United States and abroad. He is preceded in death by his siblings Maria, Mercedes, and Jovencio.
He enjoyed fishing, playing tennis, and competing in local association golf tournaments with his many friends. In person, he was generous, warm hearted, and chatty. He loved gathering with family and friends. Using social media, he connected extended family members previously unfamiliar with one another but sharing variations of the family name living in the Philippines, U.S., and elsewhere. He was a family historian, continuing the work of his late Uncle Valentin who immigrated to the United States in the 1920’s as part of the earlier wave Filipinos immigrating to the U.S. known as the Manongs.
