Billie Bonney, age 98, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 1, 2018 at the Gulf Breeze Courtyard. Billie was a native of Mississippi, born in Rome, but followed her Marine husband to Pensacola in May 1942. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton L. Bonney and brother, John Miller, Jr. Survivors include her son, Jack L. Bonney and his wife, Shirley; grandsons, Steve and Jeff Bonney; granddaughter, Susan Harmening; two nieces, Sharon and Janice; and their families; great grandsons, Ethan and Hudson; great granddaughter, Ashton.
She held various County positions including working for Joe Oldmixon, Supervisor of Elections in the old county courthouse, and with the School Board and the old Escambia County Nursing Home.
Billie was last a member of the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church and their KeenAgers, always enjoying their trips and senior activities. She Had previously been a member of the 1st Baptist Church's Leisure Times and Warrington Baptist Church's Young at Heart. She was also a member of the Brownsville Lions Club and the Myrtle Grove Women's Club as well as the Senior Center 57th Club.
She loved to travel and had visited every state in the union except Hawaii. She was afraid of water and flying in airplanes, so she was waiting for the bridge to be built. Billie loved people and always would share a story if they would listen.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
