Born in Pensacola, FL on November 5, 1950, Charles was the son of Charles M. Smith Sr and Nell Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He spent much of his life in the skies, serving as an airline pilot with skill and pride. His career was marked with professionalism, adventure, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of flight.
After retiring, Charles found joy in the quiet rhythm of his workshop and the challenge of day trading. Whether he was building something with his hands or analyzing the markets , he approached each day with curiosity and determination. His creativity and dedication were evident in everything he touched.
Though his path in life was not always easy, Charles experienced a profound transformation later in life when he came to know Christ. His faith became a cornerstone of his final years, bringing him peace, purpose, and a renewed sense of hope. He embraced his beliefs with humility and sincerity and they guided him through life's final chapter. One verse that held a deep meaning for him was John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This promise of eternal life brought him comfort and strength in his final days.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Jessica Hardy; his son-in-law, Brad Hardy; his grandchild, CJ Hardy; his sisters, Susan Wesler and Carol Ann Colbert; his brother-in-law, Hal Colbert; and a niece and nephews and extended family and friends who will remember him for his strength, his stories, and the quiet wisdom he shared.
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, with a visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial at Bayview Memorial Park to follow.
