

Clifton Travis Windham, Lt Col (USAF Ret.) of Panama City, Fl passed away from respiratory failure on Jan. 4, 2022 at age 82. Travis was born December 15th, 1939 in Semmes, Mobile County, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Hopson (Buster) Windham, Hope Green Windham, sister, Hope “Therefa” Windham Hartigan and brothers Tony Windham, Drayton Windham and Forrest Windham and most recently his brother-in-law Harry “Bob” Mills. Survivors include his wife, Judy M. Windham, of 57 years, son The Rev. Dr. David Pete Windham and daughter-in-law Caroline, grandchildren Dr. William Travis Windham (Rebecca), Catherine Windham Richards (Nick), great grandchildren James Alexander Windham and Henry David Windham. He is also survived by his sister Twila Windham Mills and brothers Oliver Windham (Joan), and Michael T. Windham (Gracy) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Travis graduated from Tate High School in Pensacola, FL and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Science in 1959 from Marion Military Institute; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1962 and a Master of Science Degree in Engineering from Arizona State University in 1968. He served his country with honor as an officer in the United States Air Force retiring in March 1985. During his Air Force career he served at numerous bases within the United States as well as a one year tour in The Republic of Vietnam and The Republic of Korea. His many awards and decorations include The Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon w/4 Devices, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/device, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1970. After his retirement from the Air Force, Travis worked as Building Official for Escambia County, FL and Director of Public Utility for Bay County, Fl retiring in 2004.
He believed in Jesus, his Lord and Savior and was a member of St. Michael Anglican Catholic Church. His family looks forward to the day of their heavenly reunion. Travis’ family and heritage were important to him. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and looked forward to all family reunions. He was an honored member of the Panama City Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. Both his military career and his membership in the SAR promoted his patriotism, heritage and love of country.
The family will receive friends from 9 – 10am on Thursday Jan 13th. At Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be 11am Thursday, Jan. 13th at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola FL.
