Connie, age 96 went to her eternal home in the early morning of March 27, 2021. She was born on Dec 21, 1924 in Molino, Fla. Following graduation from Tate H.S. she moved to Washington, D.C. for employment with the FBI. Upon her return to Pensacola, she met and married Charles Gooden and began her life as a military spouse. Following military retirement, she was a successful business woman, owning and operating a Standard Oil Station with her husband and later owning College Fabric Shoppe where she was a professional seamstress. She made Tate H.S. chorus uniforms for many years, joining them in winning National competitions for “best uniform”. Connie loved and served the Lord in many avenues, including several administrative positions in her church, organizing and assisting in toy and food drives for her community and volunteering for Salvation Army. Connie loved gardening, spending many hours working in her yard and the church yard. She often said that she hoped the Lord would let her be his gardener. She always had a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes.
She was preceded in death by fourteen siblings. To cherish her memories, Connie leaves behind two children, Darrell (Debbie) Gooden, Debra (John) Axley; three grandchildren, Nicholas(Brittany) Woosley, John (Page) Axley and Jason (Amy) Axley; three great-grandchildren, Piper Woosley, Jackson Woosley and Grayson Axley; one brother, Harry(Jean) Hassebrock.
Connie will be joining her husband and many siblings. Due to covid restrictions a private graveside service will be held, with a memorial service to honor her later. Memorial contributions can be made to Gonzales Methodist Church or a charity of your choice. To send condolences please visit Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at www.dignitymemorial.com

When I was growing up, I admired Aunt Connie for her work ethic, her stamina, and her own sense of time! She was always so neatly dressed and put together, too! The hours I spent in her fabric shop with my mom Anne and my sisters were enjoyable and peaceful, even though Aunt Connie was busy.
It is sad to experience Aunt Connie and her generation leave us, but I’m thankful for the good memories! Rest in peace, Aunt Connie.
Love, Seletta Jernigan Teston

Dear Darrell & Debra,
Obviously Ms Connie passed the test; I see her in the garden already at work. I have so many memories of a few years in my life where I've seen her on her knees working at home; planting, laying pavers for a patio (Ms Connie looking up with her special smile) at the station...filling up the drink machines, me tagging along for lunch (lots of giggles here), oh the fun of sleepovers, giggles and more giggles with Ms Connie joining in! Too many years missed! I am so glad I was able to visit two years ago, time sure passes way too fast. I love you all and pray the Lord wraps you in his arms and you find comfort in your memories. We will surely miss Aunt Connie She always wore a smile on her face and a little twinkle of mischief in her eyes! There was always a flower or bush nearby to be planted. She had her special collection of rocks...she loved those rocks and plants. She also loved people...her family and all of her friends,of which she had many. Oh, and she's the only person that we know that could garden(even pick peas) wearing shoes with heels on them! We were also the recipients of her seamstress skills. She often shortened shirt sleeves bc the shirt was too good to throw away or was locating material ( hoping Hurricane Ivan hadn't ruined it) to complete our curtains.. She was an amazing person. Aunt Connie was special to all of us!
We pray God's comfort for each of her family members.
