David Hugh Griffin

1946-2016

David Hugh Griffin, Sr., 70, of Pensacola, Florida passed away on October 26 while in Hospice after a brief illness. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. At the center of his rugged exterior was the heart of a true family man and an Alabama fan (Roll Tide!). Pop, as he was known by many, greatly loved his family and supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavors. With a pipe in hand he would reminisce days of old, from his days as a child in school to coaching baseball at NEP. He enjoyed every minute he spent with his family. When he wasn't on the sidelines of one of his granddaughter’s softball games, he was a part of the Krewe of Bon Temps. He also loved to fish and hunt with family. Nothing brought more joy than watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. At the center of his soul was the beating heart of a family man. His imprint on this earth will last a lifetime to those whose lives he touched and he will forever be remembered and loved.

David was preceded in death by his best friend and wife Mary C. Griffin, parents Harley and Betty Griffin, his brother Steve Griffin, brother-in-law Don Belcher and in-laws Lloyd and Kathleen Christmas.

He is survived by his children Tammy (Mike) Ludwig, D. J. (Sabrina) Griffin, Brian (Caylean) Griffin, Lisa (Jeff) Cryder, Erica (Reggie) Herrion, sister Sue Belcher and in laws Lloyd and Patsy Christmas, Carol and Butch Turner, 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Mikey Ludwig. Travis Griffin, Tristian Griffin, Alex Johnson, Eric Fountain and Nicholas Belcher. Honorary Pallbearers include Minnie-Lee Bush, Rachael Ludwig, Kaitlyn Ludwig, Kirstin Warlick, Keaton Griffin, Wyatt Griffin, Toni Cryder, Kinsley Park,Laura Cryder, Jackson Cryder, Lauren Belcher-Payan, Carter Payan, Jonathan Griffin, and Chris Griffin.

Friends are cordially invited to a Celebration of Life from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. There will be a service on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
