1935-2014
Dominic Charles Conaghan Sr., 79, of Pensacola, departed on Saturday, July 05, 2014 to join his family and friends awaiting him in Heaven.
Dominic was born February 25, 1935 in Jersey City, NJ to the late John and Grace Conaghan. Raised in Bayonne, New Jersey, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953. When stationed in Pensacola, he met his beloved wife Donna, also serving in the U.S. Navy. Following several assignments across the U.S., the Navy returned his family to Pensacola in 1971. During his tour of duty in the Navy, he served aboard the following U.S. Naval ships: USS Osberg, USS Stickell, USS Arcadia, USS Chicago, USS Columbus, USS Moale, and USS Fort Snelling. After retiring from the Navy, he worked with the City of Pensacola for several years.
Dominic was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 778, and proudly served in the DeLuna Assembly Fourth Degree Knights. He was a member of the Krewe of Laffite, Krewe of Columbus and a longtime parishioner of Little Flower Catholic Church. With his wife, they became members of the Civilairés and Debonairés, where they enjoyed a passion for dancing. Together they were inseparable as members of Mobile Married Mystics and Krewe of Marry Mates in celebrating Mardi Gras.
Dominic was a present fixture in the lives of his grandchildren and cherished the special memories that he made with them every day. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the motto "Family Comes First" and was a true model of this motto. He was an avid stamp collector and worked endlessly at researching and recording lineage of the Conaghan bloodline.
