

He was born in Pittsburg, PA on January 19,1939, to Roy E Hayward and Arabelle Hayward.
He was married to Evelyn W. Hayward for 11 years.
Donald first entered the Navy at 17 1/2 years old in 1956, having to get his father to sign off due his age. He had a very fulfilling 22 years serving our great country. He was stationed on a submarine during the Vietnam War and went on to being assigned to many more boats and subs throughout his naval career.
He married Patricia Anne Vittum in 1960. They welcomed into their family Mitchell R Hayward in 1961 and Jeffrey A Hayward in 1964. This time in the navy brought this family to many duty stations, including Athens, Greece. After retiring in 1978 from the navy, he worked in civil service for 16 years, retiring in 1997.
Donald enjoyed bowling, collecting coins and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Annes Catholic Church for many years and the Knights of Columbus as well as The American Legion. After marrying Evelyn, he became a member of the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Arabelle Hayward: sister, Barbara Baird and daughter in law, Judy Hayward.
Donald is survived by his sons, Mitchell Hayward (Kathy Hayward), Jeff Hayward, and Donnie Hayward: his stepchildren, Jennifer McCammond, Jeff Lawrence, Julie Helms,
His grandchildren: Jessica Hayward, Wayne Harrell, Stephen Hayward, Dorothy Hayward Hickman, and three great grandchildren, Brother, Roy Hayward Jr (Heather Hayward) and Stepsister, Donna Middleton.
Visitation will be held on October 15, 2025 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola, Florida 32506 with a memorial service immediately following. A commitall with full Navy honors will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery on October 16, 2025 at 10:30 a.m.
