Donald O. Moak, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida. He was born on November 21, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas, and grew up between the wide skies of Texas and Oklahoma—places that shaped his grit, his humor, and his lifelong love of country.
Answering the call to serve, Don joined the United States Marine Corps and fought for America during the Korean War. He often recalled that chapter of his life with characteristic precision, saying he spent one year, one month, one week, and one day on the front lines along the Imjin River. It was said plainly, without drama—because courage, to him, was simply duty done well.
Following Korea, he continued his service in the Marine Corps for 24 years, completing multiple tours in Vietnam and serving around the globe. He retired with honor as a Master Sergeant, carrying forward the values of discipline, loyalty, and quiet leadership that defined him.
Never one to stand still, Don pursued higher education after military retirement, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice. He went on to serve Escambia County as a Deputy Sheriff and was later promoted to Warden of the Escambia County Correctional Facility, where his firm fairness and steady hand earned deep respect.
Beyond uniformed service, Don gave generously to his community. He served for many years as President of the Pensacola Rifle and Pistol Club, mentoring generations and always making time for those willing to learn. He was larger than life—strong in presence, sharp in wit, and endlessly willing to help others without expectation of return.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Sally Moak, his partner in all things that mattered, and by his son Roy Moak. Their family bond was deep, enduring, and carried with him always.
He is survived by his daughter Kim, his son Lee, his granddaughters Sarah, Katie and Kyra his grandsons Hunter, Christophe, Corey, and Stanley, his great-granddaughters Sally, Rebecca, and Athena, and his great-grandson Rex—a living legacy that would have made him stand a little taller.
Donald O. Moak will be interred with military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida, at a future date.
Donald O. Moak lived a life of service, strength, and generosity. He stood his post, kept his word, and loved his family fiercely. Fair winds and following seas, Marine. Your watch is complete.
