June 20, 1936 — May 26, 2023
Dorothy “Dot” Louise Brantley, age 86, peacefully departed this life on Friday May 26, surrounded by her loving family. She was a dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a faithful member of the Bellview Church of Christ in Pensacola for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, MayBelle Brown, and her brother, James “Buddy” Moses. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Odis Elward Brantley, her daughter Vicki (Howard) Johnson, her son Garry (Carol) Brantley, her sisters Zan Smith and Linda Brown, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends.
Dot was above all a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Her commitment to Christ influenced her vocation, having served in many capacities in the church, Christian schools, ministries and organizations. Her indefatigable urge to resist idleness, and remain active in meaningful ways was on full display as she served as a trusted employee of Panhandle Alarm and Telephone Company until only a few months ago. Wherever she worked, and in whatever capacity she served, Dot left an indelible impression of grace, love, kindness and gentleness on everyone with whom she came into contact. Her very life was an effective presentation of the Gospel of Christ.
There are no words adequately to describe the life of this godly woman. Perhaps the best way to capture even a small portion of Dot’s essence is to refer to Proverbs 31:10-31. In fact, she often reflected to her family of her humble desire to be like the industrious, godly woman described in those verses. For those who knew her best, these inspired words are an apt portrait of Dot. For, indeed, after reflecting on her long, faithful life, her family and friends rise up and call her “blessed.”
The funeral for Dot will be held Friday, June 2nd, at the Bellview Church of Christ. Visitation is at 10:00 am, followed immediately by the service at 11:00. Her committal will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, her husband, Elward, asked for donations to the Bellview Church of Christ’s mission fund.
