
1921 - 2013
E.J. "Ed" Olson, 92, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was a long time Destin resident. He was born on Minneapolis, MN on January 18, 1921. Worked as a lineman for Bell Telephone. In 1943 he entered the Army and became an Airborne Infantry Unit Commander. He was in the 82nd and 17th Airborne Divisions. He served in England, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Germany. After the war he managed a restaurant on the French Riviera for the returning troops. In 1949 he went to work for Flexsteel Industries, an upholstered furniture manufacturer. He was involved in various sales and marketing activities for 38 years while with Flexsteel. He retired to the Destin area in 1987 where he enjoyed golf with his wife and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly and parents, E.J., Sr. and Kathryn Olson.
He is survived by his two sons, Richard and Raymond (wife Angela); his sister, Janet Meany; granddaughters, Alyssa Olson and Amanda Barnett; nephews, John and Robert Meany; nieces, Ann Meany and Kathryn Wilson.
A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Destin. Funeral arrangements were made by Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. He will be entombed at Bayview Memorial Park in Pensacola.
