

Elizabeth Josephine Tanner (Betty Jo), 86, a lifelong resident of Pensacola, FL passed away at home on Sunday, September 5, 2021. She was born July 17th 1935 to the late Josephine and Lynnwood Collins. A native of Pensacola, Betty Jo graduated in 1953 from Pensacola Catholic High School and went on to attend Auburn University. Betty Jo retired from Sears & Roebuck. She was active in her church and community serving as a volunteer and working for St. Paul’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic and St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She loved reading, gardening and was an avid Auburn football fan.
Along with her parents, Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Aubrey Tanner whom she was married to for 54 years.
She is survived by her children; Cecil Tanner (Karen), Mark Tanner, Mary Beth Uvodich (John), Catherine Hughes (Bill); grandchildren, Brett Uvodich, Chase Uvodich (Michelle), Olivia Uvodich, Michael Hughes, Elizabeth Hughes, Mark Tanner, Colt Tanner and Jack Tanner.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 23, 2021 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 a.m., Father Schumm officiating, with a reception immediately following in the Parish Hall. For those who would like to attend departure for the rite of committal at Holy Cross will be at 12:00 p.m.
