Eugene Elmer Gill passed away suddenly Monday March 12, 2012 at the age of 82.
Gene entered this world July 15, 1929 in Salem, Iowa to his loving parents Elmer and Mae Gill. He is predeceased by his parents and his loving siblings, brothers Arlo and Kenneth Gill and sister Bessie Loving. He leaves behind his sisters Paulene Vandenburg and Wanita Milks.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wonderful wife of 61 years Audrey Louise Gill. He also leaves behind 6 children Karen Miller and her husband Jim, Perry Gill, Sheila Hodges and her husband Steve, Corine Gideons and her husband Sid, Sandra Rhoden and Denise Loyd. He also leaves behind 18 loving grandchildren, Kathy, Jimmy, Jonathan, Justin, Jessica, Louis, Steven, Kerri, Natasha, Heather, Joshua, Krista, April, Sarah, John, Bryce, Rachel and Tristan. He also leaves behind 23 beautiful great-grandchildren, Bryleigh, Autumn, Austin, Klaire, Kaiya, Jackson, Taya, Jeremiah, Katie, J.T., Chase, Emma, Dylan, Austin, Camaron, Peyton, Madicyn, Heidi, Briclyn, Shayd, Hannah and Hallie.
He retired from the US Navy after 26 years as a Personel Chief Petty Officer in 1973. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the American Legion Post #240 and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Gene loved his family and he enjoyed bowling, fishing and watching his soap operas as well as NASCAR. He also enjoyed hosting his beloved family fish fries.
He will be sorely missed by every life he touched.
The family will receive visitors at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Thursday March 15th from 5 pm – 7 pm. The funeral services will be Friday March 16th 11:30 at Oaklawn Funeral Home with interment at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard NAS Pensacola at 12:30 pm.
