
Florence Uzee Coleman, 91, a longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021. Florence Uzee was born in Raceland, Louisiana on May 15, 1929. She was a graduate of the Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she worked as a Registered Nurse and was the pediatric ward supervisor. While in New Orleans, Florence met and married Jack Coleman, a Tulane University medical student. The couple eventually moved to Mobile, Alabama, where they raised their four children. Mrs. Coleman was actively involved in the Mobile community, volunteering at the Red Cross, the Girl Scouts, the Ronald McDonald House, and many other service and charitable organizations. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling with her family. In recent years, she greatly enjoyed playing bingo and card games with her family and caregivers. Family was very important to Mrs. Coleman. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and remained very close to her siblings and extended family in Louisiana and Texas. She was proud of her south Louisiana heritage and passed along her love and knowledge of Cajun food and culture to several generations of family and friends. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her parents, Valerie and Lucien Uzee, her loving husband of 63 years, Jack, her son, James Coleman, and her siblings, Norris Uzee, Doris Zeringue, Cullen Uzee and Douglas Uzee. She is survived by her children, Valerie (Lionel) Williams of Spanish Fort, AL, Phyllis (Jerre) Bryant of Theodore, AL, and Sharon (Harold) Williamson of Salem, SC, her brother, Donald Uzee of Larose, LA, her grandchildren, Carl, Eric and Neil Williams, Joseph and Jack Coleman, Julie Bryant and Blake Williamson, her great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all of the caregivers and other professionals who cared for Florence during her final years.
