

George was born and raised in Boston, MA where he attended Northeastern University. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the European theater with the 78th Infantry Division and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star decorations. After the war he returned to Northeastern and received a Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering. His career started with American Cyanamid Co. in Stamford CT and Kalamazoo, MI. In 1955 he joined the Chemstrand Corporation in Decatur, AL, which subsequently became the Monsanto Co. He transferred to Pensacola in 1976 as a Purchasing Manager and retired aft 30 years of service.
In 1950 he married fellow Cyanamid employee Sarah (Terry) Provoost. They were happily married for 67 years. Because of their handicapped daughter, Nancy, George and Terry were heavily involved in programs for the mentally retarded. George served as president of the Alabama Assn. for Retarded Citizens and twice as president of the Arc Gateway in Pensacola.
He is survived by his wife, Terry; brother, Paul Kellen, of Medford, MA; children, Daniel George Kellen, Carol Kellen Cobler (Richard) and Nancy Catherine Kellen, all of Pensacola and David Provoost Kellen (Julie) of Gulf Breeze; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren all of whom were a great joy to him.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 06, 2017 at Barrancas National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Arc Gateway, 3932 N. 10th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 35203.
