Gloria Joyce McKinnon

May 21,1926 - November 30, 2011

Joyce McKinnon, 85, of Pensacola, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Mrs. McKinnon was born on May 21, 1926 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1948 where she received her Registered Nursing degree. She worked in the Veteran's Hospital in Van Nuys and Long Beach, California where she met her future husband Donald McKinnon. They were married in Waco, Texas on August 19, 1951. She was a dedicated and supportive wife and mother to four children during Donald's 25 years of military service in the United States Air Force. After his retirement in 1969, they moved to Pensacola. She returned to her nursing career in the 70s when West Florida Hospital opened. She worked there for 10 years and Sacred Heart Hospital for 10 years in the newborn nursery. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, and two sons Jody and David. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Donald, sons Donald McKinnon Jr. of Tega Cay, SC and Mark McKinnon of Westminster MD; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and John Hudson of Pensacola; grandchildren Donald McKinnon III (Dusty) of Dumfries, VA; Matthew McKinnon of Pensacola,; Ashley McKinnon of Westminster MD; Christopher Hudson of Pensacola; and Cara Hudson of Pensacola; and a great granddaughter Samantha McKinnon of Dumfries, VA.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 P.M. Sunday December 4, 2011 at the Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. Service will follow at 3 P.M. with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating. Interment will be 11:45 A.M. Monday December 5, 2011 at Barrancas National Cemetery.
