Grace was born on July 1, 1924, in Bay City, Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Katherine Wright. She grew up in Bay City with her brothers and sisters, where she developed a love of reading that would last her entire life. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Grace lived a life devoted to her family. Always on the move with her husband’s Navy career, she raised five children with Bill: Chuck, Lane, Peggy, Glenn, and Patty.
She was devoted to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were blessed to call her Granny.
Grace was a fixture of her community. She volunteered her time to Meals on Wheels for many years, bringing food and friendship to other senior citizens. She often sat with the elderly, whom she fondly called “my old ladies.” She loved to socialize, whether it was American Legion gatherings, food festivals, or a chat in her living room. She also enjoyed baking: her Christmas rum cakes were legendary. When asked to describe herself, Grace said, “I’ve always considered myself a great reader.” Bookstores were a favorite destination of hers.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Hoffman, and three of her children: Chuck, Peggy, and Patty. She is survived by two sons, Lane and Glenn; 11 grandchildren; as well as numerous greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made
to Meals on Wheels in Grace’s memory.
Rest in peace, Granny. Your life will live on through the impact you made on ours.
