He was the devoted son of Elgin Clyde Babb Jr. and Violette Schmitz Babb. A life so fully lived leaves behind an enduring legacy of faith, love, craftsmanship, and perseverance.
Born in Pensacola in 1927, Harry lived a long and vibrant life defined by his deep commitment to faith, family, work, and the passions that brought him joy. Harry was the last surviving alumnus of St. Michael’s High School Class of 1946. He was a devoted husband to Christine, his wife of 71 years and together they shared the joy of raising a handsome family.
Harry was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Elizabeth Clara Babb and his beautiful wife, Christine. He is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, and twenty-nine great-grandchildren — all of whom will carry forward the legacy of his wisdom, kindness, and enduring sense of humor.
Harry’s professional life began in 1947 and was marked by dedication and an adventurous spirit. He held several positions throughout his career, each one reflecting his skill, versatility and drive. Among his favorites was Colombia National, where he was proud to be part of a company involved in the production trade and geological analysis of zirconium ore. At the Chrysler Space Division, Harry was fortunate to walk past the Moon Rover each day — a daily reminder of human innovation and his connection to history in the making.
His work at Greenhut, selling candy, drugs, cigars, and notions, St. Regis, and Brookley Field showcased his adaptability and business savvy. In 1967, he joined the Scott Paper Company family, remaining there until his retirement in 1986 at the age of 59.
Harry was not one to slow down, an entrepreneur at heart, his vision and tenacity led him to launch two successful businesses — Baldwin Door Sales and B&S Machine — where his love of machining and building flourished. His lifelong hobbies included woodworking, machining, construction, and CAD design — always creating, always learning.
He was proud of his time spent in classes at the University of Florida and as an enthusiastic Gators fan, he cheered on his Gators every football season. His devotion to his faith, particularly to St. Padre Pio and the Blessed Virgin Mary, was unwavering. As a devout Catholic, Harry's spirit and values shaped every aspect of his life and the legacy he leaves behind.
