

Herman Henry Birkenkamp Jr. of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born on February 15, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, as the youngest child of Herman Henry Birkenkamp Sr. and Marion Hartman Birkenkamp.
He graduated from Scott High School in 1949. He then attended the University of Toledo for 2 years. In 1954, he graduated from Cleveland College of Mortuary Science. Herman worked as a funeral director, owning and operating the Herman Birkenkamp & Son Funeral Home with his father until it was sold in 1982.
Herman was a very loving, caring and generous husband. He was married to Beverly J. Grindle Birkenkamp from 1961 until he was widowed in 1994. Herman then married his lifelong friend and current wife, Ina L. Matt Sharp Birkenkamp on February 25, 1995. Herman and Ina began spending winters in Florida, eventually moving to Pensacola.
He dedicated over 50 years of his life as an active member of the Robinson-Locke Masonic Lodge in Toledo and the Zenobia Shrine, where he was involved in its Jeepster Unit. Later in life, Herman enjoyed watching and going to golf tournaments with Ina. He also had fun gambling.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Marion; sister, Joanne and first wife, Beverly.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ina; step-children, Kathy, Steve and Charles; sister, Marilyn; 6 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herman always brought a smile to everyone’s face, leaving only great things to say about him. He leaves behind a legacy filled with special memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Regency Hospice and Summer Vista Assisted Living for the care and compassion they showed Herman in his final days.
An interment will take place at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo, Ohio.
