Horace O. Phillips, a retired mechanical engineer for Atlantic Richfield Company and a retired naval officer who served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WW II, passed away on July 24 at the age of 93. He was born to Hollis and Lois Phillips in 1922 in Rosston, Ark., and is preceded in death by his wife, Anne, and his granddaughter Kris Redden. Horace is survived by his sister Ruth Hill; daughters Pat Pomerantz Phillips and Lois (Anne) Phillips-Hayward; son David (Kathy); grandchildren Lara Waters (Chris), Jesse Pomerantz, and Andrew Phillips; great grandchildren Megan Hattabaugh (Travis), Joel Redden, Sierra and Logan Pomerantz, and Evan and Alex Waters. Visitation will be on August 7th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 303 S. Navy Blvd, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., followed by mass from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Internment will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St John the Evangelist Church on 303 S. Navy Blvd, Pensacola, FL, 32507 (850-455-0356) or to a cancer society of one's choice. Masses may also be requested for Horace and Anne (husband and wife) at St. John's. The family wishes to express its gratitude for the thoughtfulness and care given to Horace over the past years by a number of his nephews and nieces, including Bill Mato (Michelle), Jack Mato, Bill Stokes (Anne) and Mary Ann Lang (Al); by Bill (Vicki) and Linda Redden and Mary DeBoer (Tom); by his caregiver Lee Lodge; by Dr. Sunnenberg, his nurse Shannon and staff; by visiting nurses Marge Fitzpatrick and Arbutas Mullins, hospice nurse Diane Strict and hospice social worker Kellye Lee, and his continuous care nurses; by the clergy at St. John's; and by his close friends from Atlantic Richfield and his volunteer work at the US Navy Hospital and the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. Horace had a great love for his family and country, and he will be deeply missed.
