Janice graduated from Elberfield High School and worked for a brief period at the electric company making lightbulbs until marrying the love of her life Robert D. Voyles in 1954. She devoted her life to raising eleven children while traveling to many locations throughout her husband’s military career, settling in Mystic, CT., upon retirement, where he pursued a second career in lobstering. A decade later, they pulled up stakes and finally settled in Pensacola, Florida. While Robert began his third career commercial fishing, Janice finished raising the younger children and began setting deep roots at their final residence in Navy Point. The values she instilled in her children and the sacrificial life she led serves as her memorial and far outshines the accomplishments of many of today’s models. While many hours were spent in the kitchen preparing meals, Janice enjoyed toiling in the garden and reading, but her greatest love was playing the piano. Having learned to play by ear as a child, she never read a note, but could play a piece after just one hearing. Her love for music carried her through her daily chores as she was often heard humming a tune, seemingly oblivious to her surroundings.
In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert D. Voyles, her brothers Herbert, John B, and Louis Kost, her sister Cynthia Cook, and her son Richard Voyles.
Surviving relatives include her sisters, Ruth Ann Harris (Newburgh, IN) and Anita Birk (Flower Mound, TX) and brother David (Lisa) Kost (Evansville, IN).
