Jetta Witt from Pensacola, Florida passed away at the age of 80 on 30 October 2024. Jetta is survived by her two children Mike Witt (Christine) and Cheryl Eads (David) and three grandchildren Joseph Eads (Maddie), Lindsey Eads, and David Witt, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jetta is preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” Witt, her mother Treva Perrigo (step-father Fred), her father Jett Reed, her sister Donna Harland and brother William Leek.
Born in Batesville, Arkansas, Jetta and her family moved to Wichita, KS in 1952. Jetta was an active member in Rainbow for Girls and enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, crocheting, and working in the yard. Jetta was a self-taught painter, learning by watching television personality Bob Ross. Jetta attended South High School where she sang in the school chorus and glee club. After Jetta graduated high school, she went to work for a local aerospace company (Garwin Inc.) as a secretary.
Jetta met Jim at a drive-in surrounded by friends and were married in 1964, a love that lasted 60 years. Jetta and Jim moved their family to Columbus, Georgia, in 1972, raised their children and was the PTA president. Jim bought Jetta her first set of golf clubs even though she never liked golf. It did not take Jetta long to reach elite status and Jim regretted it when she beat him by a couple of strokes. Jetta was club champion at Green Island Country Club in 1984 and 1985, where she also kept scores for the PGA during the Southern Open. Jetta and Jim moved from Columbus, GA to a few snowy states over the years, but called Pensacola home. Jetta’s final stop and vowed to never move again after seeing the white sandy beach and clear ocean water in Pensacola. Jetta also won the Marcus Pointe Club Championship in 2002.
Jetta is a born again Christian and regularly attended Wilde Lake Church. Jetta served as an usher, on the bereavement committee, and worked on the church lawn. Jetta often talked about the “Wilde Bunch” of friends. The Wilde Bunch spent time together exploring the cuisine in Pensacola, and sometimes being that loud group.
A Memorial Service will be held at Wilde Lake Church on Thursday, 7 November 2024, at 11:00am. The Visitation will be at 10:00am prior to the service.
