John “Jack” Bowes Guttmann, Sr., 94, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 after a brief illness. Born July 2, 1925 in Pensacola, Florida to Louis B. and Abella Agnes Guttmann, the middle child of five children.
Jack, a veteran of WWII, served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. He met his lovely bride and wife, Maxine Gunter in 1948 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 22, 2019.
From 1949 to 1980, Jack worked for the Federal Civil Service primarily at NARF (Naval Aviation Rework Facility) NAS Pensacola, as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic. Once retired, the “homebody”, enjoyed working in his garage aka “Jack’s Workshop” and doing yardwork including planting spring and summer gardens. He was truly a “Jack of all trades”.
Jack is survived by his wife, Maxine; son, John B. Jr.; and daughter, Susan E.; brother, Marion Guttmann; and sister, Mary Cleveland; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives, and a special neighbor, Donald George.
Thank you from the family to the wonderful people both at the Life Care Center of Pensacola where Jack was a resident for a little more than a year and to Covenant Care at Sacred Heart Hospital for their loving care and support during Jack’s finals days.
