Jack Slevin, 84, of Lillian, Alabama passed away peacefully with his wife Peggy by his side on July 20, 2015. Jack was born on June 3, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Marguerite and John Slevin. He graduated from Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy in 1949 and from the University of Detroit with a Bachelor’s degree in 1953. He joined the U.S. Air Force at Sampson AFB, NY in 1954 and proudly served his country for 22 years and 6 months with duty stations in Harlingen TX, Biloxi MS, Blytheville AR, Oscoda MI, Abilene TX, and Austin TX where he retired as a Major. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served there in 1970. After retiring in 1976, he worked in various jobs, his favorite being a Deputy Sheriff on Lake Travis in TX. He loved fishing and boating and owned several boats during his life. One of his proudest catches was a Northern Pike that was almost as long as he was tall (this is not a fish tale). He loved to camp and to travel. He started his camping adventures with a tent, progressed to a camper, then trailer, a fifth-wheel trailer, and two Mobile homes/RVs. Jack and Peggy traveled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. When not traveling with the RV they loved to see the world by cruise ships. These travels took them to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, river and barge trips on the Mississippi and Tennessee Rivers, Hawaiian Islands and abroad, to include the Holy Land, Greek Islands, and Rhine River.
Jack is preceded in death by his father John, mother Marguerite, Sister Peggy Palmer, and son Jay. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy, sister Kathie Failer (Maurice) of Minneapolis, MN, and daughters Kathy Clore (Keith) of Percy, IL and Linda Hill (Rick) of Midland TX, grandchildren Daniel Rondeau (Jen), Marlena Dickinson (Josh), Erin Barrett (Jordan), Kristin Danley (Shane), and great grandchildren Illiaina Dickinson, Brooklyn Barrett, and Joshua Rondeau.
