

Joni Ann Matthews was born on September 21, 1950, in Fort Scott, Kansas. She lost her long battle with dementia on October 10, 2023. Joni's father was Jack Pellett, and her mother was Marian Hodgson. Joni grew up in Kansas and later moved to Pensacola, FL with her late husband Ron Christenson. Later, she married David Matthews in 1982.
She attended college at Kansas State University and Fort Scott Junior College. She worked for the Navy Exchange and was later known as the "book issue lady" for Trawing 6 on NAS Pensacola. She loved to crochet and researching her family's genealogy. She was also a long-time member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution.
Most of all, Joni loved her family. She and her late husband David have two sons. Both are married with children. Ryan married Kirsten Rinke and they have two children, a son named James Thomas and a daughter named Brittney Rose. Nathan married Melissa Camp and they have two children, a son named William David and a daughter named Magnolia Lee. Nathan also has a son named Dylan Rogers from a previous marriage.
A funeral service for Joni will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola, FL 32506. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, FL 32508.
