Louise Hughes Harden passed away from cancer on March 1, 2017 with her daughters by her side. She was born in Charlottesville, Virginia to Jim and Margaret Hughes. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Harden, her brother Dan Hughes, her nephew Jim, and her parents, all of whom she has been looking forward to seeing.
She leaves behind 2 daughters, Dana Hoewt (John) and Jamie Barrett (Carter) as well as 4 grandchildren, Haley, Alexandra, Eleanor and Cornelia; her brother in law Jim Harden, her brother Garnett Hughes (Donna), her identical twin sister, Eloise Shell (TA) and nieces Karen, Martha (Bryan) and Sarah as well as her nephews Steve (Kyle), David (Leigh) and Scott (Kara), and numerous family members and beloved friends. Her devoted dog Teddy became “the man in her life” after her husband Bill passed away. She will be especially missed by her Sunday School class and Friday night dinner group.
Among the things for which our mother will be remembered: her hospitality which she graciously shared with family and friends; her ability to make a dinner with next to nothing; her famous pancakes; people constantly mistaking her for her twin Eloise, and vice versa; her unfailing love for her daughters; her devotion to her church and her support for Samaritan Hands, a Christian ministry; her love of beautiful flowers and gardens; her quiet southern voice; her willingness to remain in the background when the world was loud with “me first.” She called herself boring, but we think she had mastered the art of doing ordinary things with extraordinary love. So, in honor of our mother, do what she did best. Show love to others by doing something very ordinary with extraordinary love.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 500 North Palafox, Pensacola, Florida on Monday, March 6. Visitation will be held at 4:00 p.m. with a service at 5:00 p.m.
Flowers are welcome, however, contributions may be made to Samaritan Hands c/o FBC.
