Marjorie "Margie" Ann (Perron) Broome, 85 of Pensacola (Beulah) passed away February 22, 2026 with her daughters by her side at her home. She was born in New Orleans on 24th July 1940. She and her family settled in Pensacola in 1973.
She was raised by her grandparents. When she was 10 years old, she lost her grandfather. This forced her to take over the household finances. She grew up quickly and took care of her grandmother and herself. Her grandmother passed when she was 14 and she went to live with her Godfather Philip Bourgeois and his wife Mary. She truly became their daughter. When she moved to the Beulah area they moved from Gretna, LA., built a home next door to her to be close to her and her family. In 1957 she met and married Jesse Carl Broome. They met on the Mississippi River Ferry from New Orleans to Algiers. She traveled this ferry daily to go back in forth for work at a shoe store on Canal Street. She was not allowed to date so Jesse purposely took the ferry according to her work schedule just to get to know her. She was 16 and she thought he was 18 because he was in the Navy.
For many years she was a waitress as they traveled from post to post. In 1969 she became a switchboard operator for Bell Systems (AT&T) in Gretna. This would later help her to pursue a career on the Naval Air Station here in Pensacola. She started on the switchboard in 1974 then worked and trained to become part of management, when computers were introduced, she picked up data entry and became part of the administration department. She would retire with over 24 years of Civil Service. She loved her travels with the PBX Club and was President for 2 separate seasons. She enjoyed playing poker and board games with family and friends. She played penny slots at the Casinos in Biloxi; she never came home without winning. She was known for her cooking and her family will hold on to her hand written recipes for generations to come. Her passion was her family and friends.
