Mark Curtis Hoagland Sr., 66 passed away peacefully on December 14th, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. His battle with serious medical issues in his later years showed the determination and courage he had facing the many challenges with a smile.
Mark is survived by his wife, sister, 3 children, 5 grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Beloved Wife Vicky (Simpson) Hoagland, Sister Chris James (Jackie & Izla), Daughter Kristi & Raymond Fricke, Son Jason Laurer, Son Mark & Krista Hoagland, Grandsons Tyler, Wyatt & Lucas, Granddaughters Alexis & Kaylee.
Born in Ypsilanti Michigan, Mark was the son of Fredrick and Mary (Badders) Hoagland both who preceded him in death.
Over the years, Mark developed many lifelong friendships and memories. When he wasn’t reminiscing with his friends, he would often share the many crazy stories with all that would listen. One of his fondest subjects was from his time spent managing the Starlite Drive-In. There are many stories that can be shared and some that should probably be left off the internet 😊. The Time-Keeper will be signing off one last time from his final 20.
He transitioned careers into the automotive industry where he spent over 25 years. He was proud of being most everyone’s go to parts manager. His work ethic, dedication and uncanny ability to solve problems was second to none. Still not quite sure why he couldn’t solve most of the world’s problems! Of course he was most proud of the friendships he made. Again, there are many tales that shall remain in the hearts & minds of his family and friends.
In 2005 he left everything he knew and was comfortable with to start a new business venture with his son. He was a big part of the growth and success that the family business continues to have today. He was very proud of his accomplishments and it was hard for him to retire in 2014 due to medical complications.
Although working seemed to be his favorite hobby, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. The many years of bowling, hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was often a very sore card loser using choice words or phrases and there may have been a few thrown cards over the years. But everyone seemed to love and laugh at his commentary. His wife claims that he was also a sore winner as well. I say he was just very competitive and committed to anything he did just like his commitment to family & friends. That was simply who the man was and why everyone loved him so much!
He took pride in taking care of his yard but got the most satisfaction from mowing. He was often found with his ball cap and work gloves cruising around like a mad man on his riding lawn mower. We often thought that we should look into getting mower insurance as he may have run into a few things over the years.
He loved the time he was able to spend at his lake house. Although it seemed that he purchased another job as he was often found working on improvements. We honestly believe he found relaxation and satisfaction working on his property. When it was time to play, he knew how to have fun. There are many memories of tubing, skiing, fishing, sitting around the fire pit and of course putting on the best 4th of July firework shows over the years.
The hunting stories are bountiful and full of fond memories. The time he was hunting with his Grand Daughter, he may have gotten a little too close to the scope resulting in what many hunters consider scope-eye. There was a time when he misunderstood instructions and ended up falling into a creek filling his barrel with mud.
There are so many stories and tales that Mark made with his family and friends over the many years that we all had the pleasure of sharing with him. Our family would really enjoy everyone sharing their fondest tales,
At this time the family has not chosen a date for a celebration of life and request in lieu of flowers or donations that you share your stories.
