Martha S. Kilpatrick, age 87, passed away peacefully from this earth on Monday, July 29th, 2024 and joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in her Heavenly Home. Her daughter and son were by her side.
Martha was born Martha Louise Sullivan to Dixie and Lillie Mae Sullivan on August 5, 1936 in Ozark, AL. She grew up in Ozark with her two older brothers Woodrow and Eugene. After graduating from high school, Martha went to work for the Bank of Ozark which set the course for her lifelong career. Before too long, Martha was introduced to a young man by the name of Ted Kilpatrick which set the course for her lifelong love. After a short courtship, Ted picked her up from work one day and they headed to the courthouse in a neighboring county and were married by the Justice of the Peace. They spent the next sixty eight years in love.
Shortly after marrying, they moved to Pensacola, Florida where Ted had accepted a position as a barber at NAS Pensacola. As it turned out, the owner of the Bank of Ozark knew the founder of The Warrington Bank, Charles Woodbury, and highly recommended that he hire a young lady by the name of Martha Kilpatrick who was moving to Pensacola. So Martha arrived along with a written letter of recommendation and the rest is history. She worked nearly all of the banking positions through the years, officially “retiring” as Senior Vice President after fifty years. She continued to serve on the Board of Directors for The Warrington Bank and Five Flags Banks Inc. up until the time of her passing. She even virtually attended the July Board meeting just weeks ago. She may have retired, but she never lost her passion for banking and for her Warrington Bank family. We send out a special thank you to her Warrington Bank family. All of those, past and present, were such a special part of her long, blessed life.
Over the years, Martha became the rock and foundation of a growing family. After grandchildren came along, she became known as Mema to everyone. Rarely ever having a health concern of her own, she always seemed to be the caregiver and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. She wanted to be the one to nurse everyone else back to health. She didn’t want anyone to have to care for her. It wasn’t until Ted’s passing last year that left Martha with a broken heart and physical health challenges that eventually led to her journey Home.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her parents Dixie and Lillie Mae Sullivan, and brothers Woodrow and Eugene.
Left to cherish her memory on this earth are her daughter Sharon Carroll (Jim), son John Kilpatrick, granddaughter Marti Stuthers, grandson Ryan Holmes, great grandson Nolan Stuthers, great granddaughter Pearl Stuthers, and dear sister-n-law, Sarah Sullivan. Also included are several nieces, nephews, many dear friends from over the years and her beloved Connect Group at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Please know she loved you all.
The family would like to send special, heartfelt thanks to the medical team at West Florida Hospital as well as the caring staff of the Vitas Hospice Unit of West Florida Hospital.
A visitation will be held at Eastern Gate Memorial, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL 32534 on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 11:00 am, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 12:00 pm.
