Martha White Parker, a much loved teacher of music, inspired and equipped hundreds, perhaps thousands of young people to improve their lives and the lives of others through music. Even in her nineties she was still receiving an occasional note of gratitude from former students. Her family was the center of her life, her students were a close second.
Martha and younger sister Bennie had instilled in them by their parents the importance of education. Martha’s music education began when she was only seven years old. Her mother bartered with a neighbor in Perry Florida. Mrs. White offered butter and milk from their small dairy farm in exchange for piano lessons for Martha. Mrs. White made a very good deal.
After high school Martha obtained a degree in Music from Florida State University followed by a Masters of Music from Stetson University. An invitation to join the faculty of Pensacola High School soon followed. Her successes with the PHS Glee Club made her and her program known around the state.
While still teaching at Pensacola High School “Miss White “ married Joe Parker and each brought special traits that blended into a locally well known duo of talent and charm. They joined the Ray Parker Band (Joe’s brother.) Martha sang, Joe played bass. They were much in demand.
Eventually they became the parents of Ben, Pam and Bill with life becoming one long season of “family time.” Always having some adventure going and always including others. The Parkers made life more fun for many while instilling positive characteristics through example.
Their participation and contributions to First Baptist Church created wonderful fellowship and enthusiasm.
In every endeavor Martha and Joe endeared themselves to others.
Joe died in 2011 and now Martha leaves their loving family to cherish her memory : Ben Parker, Pam Lauer, and Bill Parker; Daughters- in- law include, Lisa Parker and Beth Parker; Grandchildren, Parker Lauer, Pierce Lauer, Sara & Dylan Stackpole, Rachael Parker and Emily Parker; Nieces and Nephews, Craig Addison, Scott Addison, Joy & Mike Graves, Bernie and Tricia Parker, Jaye and John Batog, Angel & Ron Barnes, and John Parker and sister-in -law Judy Parker and devoted brother-in -law Ed Addison.
