Mary Ann Miller, a Pensacola native, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary Ann graduated from the Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing and began a four-decades long career in pediatric nursing, which became not only her profession but also her passion. Mary Ann’s sweet and calming demeanor while manning the pediatric nursing hotline calmed many young mothers’ fears and lessened the worries of parents with sick babies.
Mary Ann treasured her roots in historic Downtown Pensacola and embraced all that coastal Florida living has to offer, including boating, fishing and shell collecting. Mary Ann was a certified scuba diver and loved diving in the Gulf of Mexico. She enjoyed visiting Florida lighthouses and cherished her collection of lighthouse accessories. After retiring from Pediatric Associates, Mary Ann became somewhat of a poker ace, playing in a weekly Texas Hold ‘Em game where she earned the reputation of being a silent but deadly shark.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Malcolm (Mack) Miller, her brother, Edward Yates (Dee) her children Michael Preston Miller (Elise) and Shirley Fiano (Tony), her grandchildren Michael Miller, Jr., Casandra Chesser, and Francesca Fiano, as well as numerous great grandchildren. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents Thurman and Florence Yates, her sisters Christine Griffith, Edna Gibson, Billy Jean Falzone, and her grandson Anthony (T.J.) Fiano.
Mary Ann will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who always had a kind word when needed the most and who was intuitively sensitive to other people’s feelings. Mary Ann is interred at the Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering and celebration of life will be held at Jo's at 501 N 9th Ave on March 1st from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
