My name is Risa Yesowitz, and I am your cousin.  Sonny and Al Tenzer were my parents and Ann and Mike were my mom's cousins.  How I loved Ann and Mike! It must have been heart wrenching to see your child suffer with this terrible illness, and I am so sorry for all that he, and you have endured. I am Cousin Pat. I grew up with your Mom. I loved your grandparents and would visit when I was in fla. Your Grandma Ann was my Moms best friend. She would often talk about her beautiful grandchildren. Her Boy Matthew was special, bright and loving. She was so proud

Dear Matt, I remember the day you arrived. You were the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. Matt, you taught me what it meant to love a child. I remember playing with you and hearing your laughter. I remember you and Caitlin running, with Laura trying to catch up. Always the leader. Magic tricks and power rangers.  You became a beautiful man. I will love you until the end of my days. My dearest cousin "Ma-foo" -

I will always remember you in the happiest of times. The top three moments that always seem to be flooding my memories of you are when we were very young and you always managed to make fun of me for liking that old 90's show "reading rainbow" and sang it to me to make me laugh (and lightly punch your arm):

The first --- As you sang it:
"Buttew-fwies in duh skaaaaiii - i can see twice as hiiiigh! Just take a wook, it's in ouw book, of weading wainbows!!.... Sheee can see any-fiiiinggg..."
*(as I type this.. I'm still laughing with a huge smile on my face). Thank you for implanting your version of the Reading Rainbows theme song in my head for life. I will always laugh because I remember you laughing with me after you sang that song to me. Also because I know that you sang that same song to Caitlin. The very same way...

The second was teaching me how to play chips challenge. To this VERY day, I play the iOS version of it... and now my son Tyler even enjoys playing it. Such a fun strategic puzzle game. Every time I hear the little noises from that game, I smile. I also hear you calmly tell me, "No Laura..... you can't run into the fire, go AROUND it... NO YOU MISSED THE CHIP!" -- I know... I was always checking to make sure you were watching.

The third is the Power Rangers. We always went into your room to play with what seemed to me (at the mere age of 6/7) was a multitude of power ranger action figures and vehicular robot animals, that kept us both occupied for the longest time. I was always the pink and the yellow rangers. You were Tommy and Billy.

With these memories, I will cherish them and MANY many more. All the letters you wrote me, all the family vacations and visits to grandma and papa's. The good, the not so good, and everything in between...

You may have been my first cousin (and you STILL are), but in many ways more than not, you were like the brother I never had.

Matt had a heart of gold beneath the burdens that he carried. He was a great friend and he will truly be missed. He left a mark on my heart and always tried to be there for me to the best of his abilities. My heart goes out to his family and I pray that their suffering will be alleviated.

Matthew was one of my son's best friends growing up.  I remember him as a respectful, thoughtful young man, always willing to help.  My heart goes out to his loving family, he spoke highly of them.  May he rest in peace in the Kingdom of Heaven.  Sincerely, Christine Pereira
