Mom had wanted for some time to see her heavenly home and quietly on July 12, 2022, angels came to take her to meet her Savior. In this life, she loved East Hill Christian School and served as their Financial Secretary for over 40 years. She was a faithful member of East Hill Baptist Church (now Hillcrest Baptist at Spanish Trail). All her adult life her passionate commitment to mission work kept her very active in the Women’s Missionary Union at the local, state, and national level. After church and school, Mom loved sewing, baking, and gardening, bequeathing those interests to her children. Famous for her 6-egg sponge cake, she baked countless cakes for church pot-luck suppers, church members that were home-bound or in nursing homes, friends, and neighbors. If you knew her, she likely fed you or gave you something from her garden. She is survived by her son Charles M. Smith, Jr., two daughters Susan E. Wesler and Carol Ann Colbert, son-in-law Hal P. Colbert, Jr., five grandchildren, Jessica Hardy, William Ryan Wesler, Claire G. Colbert, H. Patton Colbert, III and Emory C. Colbert, four great grandchildren, brother Jerry Glenn and sister-in-law Christine Glenn. Now in heaven she is reunited with her mother Mabel Glenn Lukkar, stepfather Charlie Lukkar, two brothers, her sister, and her two life-long best friends Earlene Nolan and Mary Jane Leonard.
