

Ray Rowell, age 91, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 5th, 2013. He was born April 12, 1922 in Cullman Co, AL to William Moses Rowell and Myrtie (Vaughter) Rowell where he was raised on a farm. At age 20, he joined the US Army, and during WWII fought in the Battle of Okinawa and occupied Japan with the 27th Div. He married his wife of 65 years, Mary Kate Anderson on Oct. 3, 1948. Ray worked for a time as a carpenter, a mechanic, attended welding school, and retired from Monsanto as a mechanic and welder. He enjoyed the time he spent in the Masonic lodge, fishing, and showing off pictures of his catch. He was a member of Scenic Heights Baptist Church for 47 years, then a member at East Brent Baptist Church for the remainder of his life. He was blessed with many close friends. In summary, he loved the Lord, his family, and his country. He always said "I read the obituaries every day to make sure I'm not in it. If not, then I'm still alive." Now that he's in it, we'll have to forward a copy to him.
Preceded in death by his parents and all 8 of his siblings. Survived by his wife Mary Kate Rowell, son Stephen Ray Rowell, granddaughter Sheryl Ann Braun, grandson Joshua Moses Rowell, and 4 great-grandchildren John Spencer Braun, Talia Kate Braun, Mallory Joy Braun, and Anderson Ray Braun.
