

He was preceded in death by his mother and father Nellie Marquerite (Creighton) Born and Allen Charles Born Sr, sister Barbara Causer, brother Allen (Bub) Charles Born Jr, twin sisters Catherine Livingston and Caroline Hatton, son Robert Wayne (Bubba) Born, Jr., and his wife and sweetheart, Jan Elizabeth (McLellan) Born, all of whom he loved deeply.
He is survived by his children, Jan Born (affectionately known as Little Jan), and son, Tim Born (wife Katherine Nelson-Born), three grandchildren, Lindsey McAllister, Spencer Born, and Rowan Born, and one great grandchild, Tyler Auclair.
Since 1984, he was an active member and former deacon of the Scenic Hills Church of Christ.
He graduated from Pensacola High School with aspirations of flying airplanes. His Uncle Chapman Creighton would influence his decision to enter the U.S. Naval Reserves before graduating from high school. He served honorably in the Naval Reserves from 1954 – 1962 where he prepared for the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. His first civilian job would be at Sears in downtown Pensacola where he would meet and learn about retail merchandising from his boss John Willingham. Wayne would go on to work for 36 years at Montgomery Ward where he retired as a Chicago-based national retail store field layout supervisor.
His fondest childhood memories included fishing, hunting, swimming in Carpenters Creek, camping, and his leap from high school in Pensacola to bootcamp in New Orleans. He was passionate about car racing, something he did early in life with Jake Hatcher at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, and his first automobile that 1956 black and white Chevrolet that he would total not long after he bought it. He was less known for playing a variety of sports with friends WC Redding, Cecil Harrelson, Jerry Woods, and Warren Jernigan.
Some of his proudest family moments were his marriage to his beloved Jan for 67 years, the birth of his children, his children graduating from college and becoming successful, church membership, family gatherings that included fish fries, making home-made ice cream, eating watermelon, picking up pecans at his momma and daddy’s home, and visiting with family and friends and including his cousin Ray and Dickey in Phoenix, Arizona. His favorite colors were blue and what he called boat-green, the color his Daddy painted all the fishing boats he made by hand.
His favorite church songs were The Old Rugged Cross, How Great Thou Art, and Amazing Grace. His favorite bible passages were from Philippians Chp4 – Chp13, Mathew 6: 24-34; Matthew 11: 28-30; Mark 16: 15-18 and Psalm 23.
His last residency was Wesley Haven Villa Pensacola,
Sending Wayne off to his final home in Heaven, service will be held on Saturday, February 08, 2025, at Scenic Hills Church of Christ with Minister Ken Tackett officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service to follow at 11:00 AM, then lunch on the grounds, and Wayne’s 2 pm internment with military honors at Bayview Memorial at 2 pm.
In lieu of Flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Scenic Hills Church of Christ and St. Jude’s Medical Research in Wayne’s name. The family would like to express to Pensacola’s Baptist Hospital and Emerald Coast Hospice heartfelt thanks for their kindness and care of our father.
