Robert "RD" Douglas Bass

Robert Douglas “RD” Bass passed away July 21. He is survived by: wife of over 32 years and first and only love, Cheryl Tober Bass; daughters Tobie Lynn Bass and Morgan Leigh Bass; father Robert Bass; mother-in-law Catherine Tober and brother Greg Bass. He is preceded in death by mother Margot Bass and father in law Bruce Tober.

RD’s family celebrates his wonderful life. He was a loyal friend, faithful protector and a valiant warrior ‘til the end. RD was a natural leader and could always be counted on to plan everything – whether it was a fun get-together on his iconic poolside deck or ensuring “his girls” reached their goal of becoming professional nurses. His easy spirit and comfortable, kind demeanor underlay all his relationships. Though he was a fierce competitor, he was always “The Good Coach,” encouraging the t-ball, softball, basketball and volleyball players he coached for years.

RD was fun! He had a handsome smile that lit up a room and he never met a stranger. His fanatical support of FSU football was legendary, and he golfed frequently, but only “for the fellowship.”

Humble thanks to Dr. Tan and his staff at The Woodlands for their first-class personal care and endless efforts. To brother in law, “Louie” Gary Tober for his tireless attention and friendship – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Though we will miss our sweet RD, we know according to him, “It’s all good.”

Celebration of Life will run 2-4 PM Saturday July 25 at Bayview Fisher Pou Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Pensacola Ronald McDonald House.
