Ronald A. Spears, 70, was born in Repton, Alabama, and moved to Pensacola, Florida, in 1955. He passed away on May 12, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his death, Ronnie was surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert C. Spears, his mother, Marie V. Spears, and his brother, Clifford O. Spears. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 48½ years, Madie Newsome Spears. Ronnie was a dedicated father to his three daughters, Sharon Spears Brodie (Shawn), Rhonda Spears Tedder (Don), and Wendy Spears Perkins (Scott) and grandfather to his four grandchildren, Shelby Tedder, Levi Tedder, Aiden Perkins, and Noah Brodie.
Ronnie earned the rank of Specialist 4 in the United States Army and was assigned to Company A, 299th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam. He received the Army Commendation Medal for the performance of exceptionally meritorious service in support of the United States objectives in the counterinsurgency effort in the Republic of Vietnam during the period of August 1966 until August 1967.
After working 35 years in fabrication, Ronnie retired from Armstrong World Industries. He was an avid bass fisherman and served as a former president of the Northwest Florida Bass Club for many years. He enjoyed attending church at East Side Assembly of God where he served as a deacon on the church board. He loved the Lord, his family, and his friends with all his heart.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at East Side Assembly of God Church, 2990 East Kingsfield Road, Cantonment, Florida.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a committal service at Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola, Florida. Pastor Ken Johnson will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Brodie, Don Tedder, Scott Perkins, Stephen Todd, Floyd Newsome, and Charles Sapp. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Knowles, Lee Todd, and Harold Morton.
