

She was born in Ft. Madison, Iowa to Everett C. and Gladys Lockwood Boley on January 6, 1927.
As a Navy wife, Shirley got to see the world, eventually making Pensacola her home in 1988. She enjoyed acting, sewing, painting, reading, auctions, and crossword puzzles. Shirley and her husband JO were active in the Lions Club wherever they were living and Pensacola was no exception.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Guthrie and Kelly Ward, grandson Jason Ward, and her brother Terrance DeCoursey.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, JO Ward; her son and daughter-in-law Brad and Mary Ward of Chantilly, VA; brother and sister-in-law Weldon and Bettye Boley of Cottonwood, AZ; three grandsons, Darren Guthrie of Manassas, VA, Kristopher Ward of Chantilly, VA, and Bryan Guthrie of Las Vegas, NV; and one granddaughter, Samantha Ward Otten (Andrew) of Reston, VA. Two daughters-in-law, Betty Guthrie of Atlanta, GA and Shirl Ward of Pensacola also survive Shirley.
Arrangements are being made by Oak Lawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at 11:45 am.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation to friend Latrisha Williams and the staff of The Joyce Goldberg Covenant Hospice Residence for the excellent care provided in her final days.
