As an Air Force brat, the strong bonds she experienced within the military community would imprint upon her the value of relationships. After graduating in 1969, she attended Florida State University and later Brigham Young University, obtaining her PhD in the field of psychology. In 1977, she entered the Air Force as a psychologist and was stationed domestically and in Europe. After retiring from the Air Force, she returned to Pensacola, FL, to help care for her parents in their later years and began working for the Pensacola Veterans Affairs in 2001. It was here that her patients experienced the extraordinary compassion that she had for Veterans battling depression and PTSD. She saw people as God’s children, ‘valuable’ and ‘worthy’, though often wounded in mind and spirit. The relationships and bonds she established with her patients were unbreakable. She used her God-given gift of ‘listening’, truly listening to people with her very being and fiber. People entrusted their hearts to her care. Guided by deep convictions, Storne pursued a lifelong spiritual journey of serving others and helping ease their challenges and struggles. She was passionately involved with the organizations Contemplative Outreach, and Integral Christian Network as well as Christ Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader, a ‘foodie’ who loved creative cooking, and perpetually worked at making the perfect margarita. She also raised and cross-pollenated her collection of African Violets, calling them “her children”. Her intellectual curiosity led her to explore many interests, including astronomy, photography, metaphysics, and travel.
Although she will be missed, her love for humanity will continue to emanate from all whom she touched.
Storne was preceded in death by her parents Nelson LaRue Shively and Bernita Deloris Shively of Pensacola, FL.
Family survivors include her sister Sondra Shively Singleton of Pensacola, her nephew Sterling Singleton of Nice, France, and her niece Sonnet Singleton of Miramar Beach, FL.
