Vera Elizbeth Walker Ferguson, 84, of Pensacola, passed peacefully into eternal glory on November 27, 2022. She retired after 35 years of service at McRae’s. She was a member of Olive Baptist Church, and although she could not physically attend in the last year of her life, she did not want to be disturbed while she watched the Olive Baptist Church broadcast on TV. She’s known affectionately as “Mama” and “Nana”. Her happiest times were cooking for her family. Vera was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She enjoyed spending time with friends at American Legion Post 340 and karaoke. She often spoke of going to her daughter’s house in Montgomery, with her best friend, Joanne Swartz, and bragged about the 80 bream she caught in an hour. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting on her porch while tending to her flowers and growing hot peppers. Vera was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Vera is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack M. Ferguson, Sr.; her mother, Etta Mae McGhee; her father, J.C. Walker; daughter in law, Vicki Ferguson; and grandson, Corey Ferguson.
Vera is survived by her sons, Murray, Michael and Paul “Timmy” Ferguson; a daughter, Nancy Paulk; and her favorite son-in-law, Guinn “Pete” Paulk; her grandchildren, Brenton (Megan) Ferguson and Kameron (Taylor) Belich; and great-grandson, Porter Ferguson. She is also survived by her aunt, Vallie Self and niece, Shirley Ann Peek. As well as brothers-in-law, Lynn, Jimmy and Joey Ferguson and many cousins. She also leaves behind, her best friend Joanne Swartz, and special friends Lamar Majors, Frankie Gaffney Lynn Foster,and Sharon Loftin.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens, located at 1985 W Nine Mile Rd., Pensacola, FL, with Dr. Ted Traylor and Sister Hazel Godwin officiating. There will be hors d'oeuvres and fellowship to follow.
