William H. “Billy” Hayes, 85, of Pensacola, FL died peacefully at his home surrounded by family at approximately 11:10 AM on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. Son of William H. “Howard” Hayes and Gladys Ocona (Roberts) Hayes, “Billy” was born in Christina, FL (near Lakeland) on August 25, 1930 and retired in 1991 after 42 years of service with the International Mineral and Chemical Corporation (IMCC) working in the phosphate mines near Mulberry, FL. He was always an active member in his local church… teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and also serving as a deacon at various points throughout the years. His hobbies included fishing (you should’ve seen him throw a cast net!), travelling, and reading.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Wilemon Hayes; sons Bruce E. Hayes (Kim), Glen H. Hayes (Janice), and Wayne H. Hayes (Judy); daughters Sandra Magie (Rod) and Derenda Cooke (Bobby); as well as 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Veranda and to Emerald Coast Hospice for the care they provided to both Billy and Yvonne in this time of need.
