Barbara A. "Barb" Schafer

She was born July 18, 1944 in Rankin, Illinois to Samuel and Gertrude (Young) Hodel. She married Keith Schafer in Peoria December 3, 1966. He died June 21, 2011 in Chillicothe.

She is survived by one daughter, Kim (Jon) Hangartner of Peoria; one son, Todd (Melissa) Schafer of Marietta, IL; one grandson Tanner, and one step granddaughter Cheyann. Also surviving are three brothers, Irvin (Sharon) Hodel, Richard (Bonnie) Hodel and Marvin (Gail) Hodel all of Peoria; seven sisters, Rosemary (Charles) Stock of Marshfield, WI, Edith Plattner of Peoria, Ethel Waibel of Peoria, Jeanette Hoerr of Dunlap, Rhoda (Eugene) Hess of Peoria, Roma (Russell) Rumbold of Peoria, and Dorothy (Michael) Meister of Tremont; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; three brothers in-law, Kenneth Plattner, Robert Waibel and Thomas Hoerr; two nephews, Jim Waibel and Matthew Meister; and one niece Amy Hodel, preceded her in death.

Barb worked at Mitsubishi as a Quality Control Inspector for 18 years, retiring in September 2006.

She was a member of the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church. She volunteered at Apostolic Christian Skylines, R.S.V.P. (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) and Midwest Food Bank.

Barb was a very loving mother and grandmother. She led a Godly Christian life and endured life’s trials with unwavering faith and strength. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, planting flowers, and enjoying nature. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her, however, we rejoice that she is now at peace and is at home with the Lord.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church on Sheridan Road with the church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, 2408 W. Willow Knolls Dr. Peoria; and from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery near Edwards.
