She was born January 24, 1923 in rural Peoria county. Bernie was the fifth and youngest child of Daniel and Mary (Kuntz) Streitmatter. She married Robert Cambron on June 20, 1978 in Peoria. He preceded her in death along with her parents and all four older siblings.
Bernie was employed for 37 years by Caterpillar, Inc, handling various secretarial assignments. One such assignment was being the first office manager/scheduler for Caterpillar’s fleet of airplanes at the Greater Peoria Airport.
An avid golfer for over 70 years, Bernie was still playing in three nine-hole leagues into her early 90’s. She would continue to play golf during the winter months while on vacation with her husband in Tucson, AZ.
In addition to her love of golf, Bernie and Bob traveled all over the world during their retirement. This included trips to Hawaii, Australia, and Europe. While on vacation, Bernie would collect letter openers and matches as souvenirs from their different destinations.
Bernie is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews, as well as many friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 21, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Interment will follow the services at the Mausoleum. Visitation will be one half hour prior to the services. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
