Carol Joan Johnston

Carol Joan Johnston of Porter, TX, formerly of Elmwood, IL, passed away on Wednesday September 15, 2021.

She was born March 22, 1933 in Lewistown, IL to Leslie Cassel and Amy (Engle) Cassel.

She married Donald W. Johnston on July 31, 1953 in Peoria, IL. He passed away on June 19, 2007 in Peoria, IL.

She is survived by one son Gregory (Pat) Johnston of Rockledge, FL; two daughters, Susan (Roger) Althof of Foxfire Village, NC and Carol (Matt) Greek of Jacksonville, TX; eight grandchildren, Josh Johnston of Peoria, IL, Melissa (Charles) Foster of Harker Heights, TX, Julie (Jeff) Chandler of Oakwood, GA, Steve (Amanda) Darling of Mims, FL, Eric (Ashley) Althof of Aberdeen NC, Sara (Steve) Mondziel of Katy, TX, Ben (Lauren) Greek of Porter, TX and Andy (Lisa) Greek of Spring, TX; 19 great- grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Leslie and Amy Cassel; two brothers, Bob and Everett Cassel and one sister, Donna Simons.

Joan was a homemaker who totally devoted her life and love to family and friends. She did volunteer work for several years with the Meals on Wheels program at the United Methodist Church in Elmwood, Illinois.

She was a member of Arcadia Presbyterian Church in Peoria, IL, and later became a member of First Presbyterian Church in Elmwood, IL.

Joan lived most of her life in Central Illinois until relocating to the Houston, Texas metro area in 2015.

Cremation has been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at Davison- Fulton Woodland Chapel, on Sunday October 3, 2021 from 2 to 3 pm. A private inurnment of ashes will be at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Peoria, IL.
