Charlotte Ann Austin, age 91, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5th. Born August 3rd, 1934, in Spring Bay, Illinois, to Elmer and Alice (Perry) Hilliard, Charlotte married Walter Austin on July 28, 1956, at First Methodist Church in East Peoria.
Charlotte is survived by her three sons—Michael (Phyllis) Austin, Robert (Sharon) Austin, and Timothy (Lisa) Austin—five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Walt, and her brother William Hilliard.
An alumna of East Peoria High School, Illinois State University, and Brown’s Business School, Charlotte devoted 62 years to First Baptist Church of Peoria, serving in many roles and teaching Sunday School. She retired as church secretary in 1998 after 19 years of service.
Charlotte believed, as Stephen R. Covey wrote, “I think that the most significant work we ever do, in our whole world, in our whole life, is done within the four walls of our own home.” Her life was a testament to this philosophy.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 13th, 4–6pm at Davison-Fulton-Woodland Chapel, and Saturday, February 14th, 9–10am at First Baptist Church of Peoria, with funeral services to follow. Interment will be at Fondulac Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Peoria.
