

MORTON-Clarence Eugene Holmes, 89, of LaSalle, Illinois, formerly of Morton, passed away at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He was born on March 5, 1927 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota to Clarence J. and Mary E. (Drennen) Holmes. He married Norma I. Swords on June 26, 1948 in Peoria, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2013 in Peoria. Clarence now joins his beloved wife of 64 years, Norma in heaven, as well as his parents and two brothers, Marvin and Delbert.
Clarence is survived by three sons, Michael S. (Mary) of Peoria, Gregory (Dee) of Metamora, and Timothy (Janet) of Bartonville; two daughters, Teresa (Terry) Lane of Peoria and Lisa (David Hughes) Holmes of Bartonville; six grandchildren, Carisa Holmes, Jacob Holmes, Michelle Lane, T. J. Lane, Alexandra Lane and Nicholas Holmes; and two great-granddaughters, Hayden Lane and Briley Lane; one brother, James O. Holmes; and four sisters, Frannie Roberts, Olive Goldschmidt, Patsy Souba, and Rosalie Stoller.
Clarence served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Navy Occupation Medal. Upon returning from the war, he was employed as a fireman for the City of Peoria for over 25 years retiring as a Captain in 1977 and he worked 50 years for D. A. Hoerr Nursery retiring in 2011. He was an avid golfer and loved his yearly fishing trips to Minnesota for over fifty years.
Funeral services will be at 1:30PM Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Davison Fulton Woolsey Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Father Eric Bolek will officiate. Visitation will be from Noon until 1:30 PM at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria with military rites.
