Morton, IL - D. Scott Hart, 73, of Morton passed away at 11:20 p.m., Sunday, March 28 after a long and heroic battle with cancer at his home surrounded by his wife and loving children. He was born on October 21, 1936, in Steator to John and Christina Hart. Scott married Sandra “Sandy” L. Igel on June 11, 1961 in Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Sandy; two daughters, Jill (Mike) Tanner of Morton, Tina (Andy) Peugh of Dunlap; two sons, Scott (Angie) Hart of Morton and Chad (Wendy) Hart of Bella Vista, AR; ten grandchildren; and one brother, Ed Hart of Streator.
Scott proudly served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic from 1954-58, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting graduating with high honors from Northern Illinois University in 1962. From a very early age he wanted to be an accountant and fulfilled his dream when he joined KPMG’s (formerly Peat, Marwick, Mitchell) Chicago office in 1962. He transferred to Peoria, IL, in 1970 to head up the health care practice. Six years later, he became a partner in the firm and was the Midwest area health care audit coordinator. Upon retirement in 1996, Scott was Partner In Charge of the Peoria health care practice.
Scott served many clients over the years including over 25 hospitals and 40 nursing homes ranging from the 90-bed Morris Hospital to OSF Health Care System, totaling over 2,000 beds.
Scott was involved in many organizations including the Peoria Chamber of Commerce, the Heart of Illinois United Way, Human Service Center, South Side Mission, and Rescue Mission.
He loved the outdoors, fishing, swimming, boating on the river, and spending time with his family. Over the last twelve years, Scott and Sandy were snow birds and enjoyed the beautiful weather of Naples, Florida.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or to the American Cancer Society.
