Dale Edwin Weisser, 87, of Seminole, FL, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Seminole, FL.
He was born December 7, 1924 in Peoria, IL to Henry L. and Grace A. (Landers) Weisser. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his two children, Garey D. (Cheryl) Weisser of Peoria and Lori (Bruce) Mikos of DeLand, IL; two sisters, Lorraine A. (Peter) Pfund of Brooksville, FL and Marian E. Roby of Seminole, FL, four grandchildren, Ellen M. (Jason) Byers of Xenia, IL, Neil F. Jacobs of De Land, IL; Garey D. Weisser Jr. and Jackie Layman both of Utica, KY and five great-grandchildren.
Dale graduated from Manuel Training High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Canine Unit in Hawaii and Florida during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked for many years at CILCO in East Peoria and then with the State of Florida Vehicle Registration Department until retiring. Dale was a member of the Masons, Illinois Lodge #263 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rites Body – Valley of Peoria, and Mohammed Temple Shrine- Legion of Honor. He was active as a Sunday school teacher and Boys Club leader at the Southside Mission and then with Mt. Olive Missionary Church both in Peoria. Dale also enjoyed going to the stock car races at Peoria Speedway and he was an avid reader.
A service will be Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. The Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
